On the afternoon of December 26, 2023, the signing ceremony between Total Swiss and the Taipei Municipal University Karate Team took place at the Tianmu Campus of Taipei Municipal University on the third floor of the Department of Martial Arts.
The representatives of both parties at the signing ceremony were Vice President of Taipei Municipal University, Dr. Wang Hongzong, and the founder of Total Swiss, Dr. Wang Wenqin. Also present were the Dean of the College of Sports, Tseng Guowei, the Director of the Department of Martial Arts, Lin Xibo, Professor Xie Fuxiu, former Vice President Huang Wencheng (who had represented the university in previous Total Swiss signings), former Director of the Taipei City Sports Bureau Zheng Fangfan, all members of the Karate Team, and 15 media reporters.
This marks the ninth consecutive year of Total Swiss sponsoring the Taipei Municipal University Karate Team. In a departure from the previous eight sponsorship ceremonies where school faculty and students visited Total Swiss Taipei, this time Dr. Wang led a delegation to the university, allowing the university to play host while Dr. Wang and his entourage played the role of guests.
This subtle shift in roles seems to better reflect Dr. Wang's compassion and the company's values of being a needed force.
Before the ceremony, Dean Tseng Guowei presented Dr. Wang with a signed photo of Olympic badminton gold medalists Li Yang and Wang Qilin, expressing the College of Sports' gratitude for Dr. Wang's long-term sponsorship. Following this, Dean Tseng guided Dr. Wang through detailed introductions of facilities such as the "Health Promotion Research Lab" and the "Motion Analysis Research Lab," which are equipped for scientific analysis of students' physical fitness, combat skills, and movements. When entering another office, Dean Tseng pointed to a seemingly inconspicuous table on the right side of the entrance and mentioned that it could buy a Bentley, followed by indicating high-pressure oxygen and a freezing chamber on the left, explaining that these devices help athletes quickly eliminate fatigue and recover after training, serving as the scientific support for Karate athletes to enhance their physical fitness and refine their combat skills.
Total Swiss sponsors cover living expenses for disadvantaged students, high-quality student scholarships, off-campus training expenses, international competition expenses, and a large quantity of nutritional supplements, all of which are crucial for the Karate Team's success in important domestic and international competitions.
At exactly 3:00 PM, the signing ceremony took place in the third-floor conference hall of the College of Sports. Vice President of Taipei Municipal University, Wang Hongzong, stated in his speech that even in the era of Taipei Physical Education College, the school had a Karate Team. It was not until Professor Xie Fuxiu that Karate at Taipei Municipal University entered a new stage, with unwavering support from Total Swiss. Vice President Wang said, "I did a rough calculation. The average annual sponsorship amount from Eight Horses Company over the past eight years is about seven million, including living expenses for disadvantaged students, high-quality student scholarships, and expenses for international competitions, among others, and, of course, a large number of cell nutrition products."
Following this, Dr. Wang delivered his speech, stating that, as a businessperson, sponsoring in areas where the government's power falls short is an internal matter. Different companies may have different thoughts about sponsorship, but Total Swiss's sponsorship is based on the philosophy of taking from society and giving back to society. Dr. Wang said, "Money is limited, so we choose to sponsor selectively."
Dr. Wang particularly praised Taipei Municipal University's performance, pointing out that the success of sponsorship depends on the attitude of the school and those in charge. Over the years, Professor Xie Fuxiu has maintained close contact with Total Swiss, and the cooperation between the professor and the university has been excellent. Due to the close collaboration with Professor Xie and the university, the achievements of the Taipei Municipal University Karate Team in various competitions have consistently impressed.
Dr. Wang said, "We choose to sponsor areas where the government cannot reach, such as baseball, where there is already enough funding. That's why we chose Karate. Someone once asked me if there would be results by investing money in Karate. My answer is, sponsoring the Taipei Municipal University Karate Team will definitely yield results."
This year, Total Swiss's sponsorship for the Taipei Municipal University Karate Team remains high, reaching a total of NT$7.26 million. Among this, NT$4.68 million is allocated for student living expenses, scholarships, and international competition expenses, while the total value of nutritional products exceeds NT$2.58 million.
As the old generation of Karate seniors like Wang Yida, Gu Cuiping, and Gu Xiaoshuang have successively graduated from Taipei Municipal University, the new generation of formidable players is emerging. With the school's improving facilities, dedicated teachers, and continuous strong sponsorship from Total Swiss, the new generation of talents in Karate is poised to shine on various international competitive stages. Professor Xie confidently stated that the Karate Team now has several outstanding players from the next generation, ready to showcase their skills in international competitions.
